August 22, 2023 @ 9:00 am - August 24, 2023 @ 5:00 pm

African Development and Advocacy Centre, AFRIDAC is facilitating 3days intensive blended advocacy training and mentoring support for 15 Community Advocates in London. The 15 Community Advocates (CA) will be recruited across the 33 London boroughs with focus on the 20 with highest Black population. There will be two cohorts of beneficiaries; 15 CA’s will be recruited in year one (2022) and another 15 CA’s recruited in year two (2023). Each cohort will undergo a blended training for 3 days (presentations, case studies, group work, videos, guests, trips) and 6 months of 1-2-1 mentoring to support each CA in implementing their Action Plan. In year three, AFRIDAC will monitor and evaluate the activities of the 30 CA’s in implementing their Action Plans, telling their stories and influencing change in their communities.

Recruited beneficiaries will be trained to identify issues in their community and develop strategies to influence change. Be able to scope stakeholders and understand how to communicate key messages to diverse audiences. Be able to monitor and evaluate advocacy activities in their community. As a Community Advocate they will have the skill to share their story and give voice to their community or group.

To establish a baseline, at the start of the training each CA will do a short video to highlight the need that requires change in their community, expectation from the advocacy programme and action plan. At the end, each CA will make a short video to review/reflect on what they have learnt from the advocacy programme, evaluate progress of their action plan and highlight next steps.

The programme will help to amplify the voice of the African and Caribbean community to influence social change, tackle poverty and inequality.

The project is funded by Trust for London and National Lottery Community Fund
