Core areas of work

Training & Capacity Building

African Development and Advocacy Centre design and facilitate capacity building sessions for the Black community and other stakeholders. We introduced the AFRIDAC Community Advocacy and Mentoring Programme (CAMP) in recognition of the yearning in the community to have increased capacity to advocate for social change in local policies and service delivery. CAMP has been training an army of Community Advocates in the UK that are local to their community, passionate about local issues and able to make a change with the right skills.

Community Collaboration

We recognise the need to work with community stakeholders in service design and co-production. AFRIDAC advocacy works are initiated by members of the Black community who have personally experienced systemic racism, poverty, and inequality. We have connected with the African community by providing advocacy training in addressing poverty and inequities, mental health support for young people, African men and women through various grants and contributions partnering with other organisations and networks.

Advocacy and Campaigns

We advocate and campaign on issues that significantly affects the African and Afro-Caribbean community in the UK dis-appropriately. We have led and supported advocacy issues on systemic and institutional racism, marginalisation, inequalities at different levels and endemic poverty. AFRIDAC has amplified the voice of the Black community to campaign against the UK hostile immigration policies, homelessness, school exclusion of black children.

Policy Engagement

African Development and Advocacy Centre (AFRIDAC) advocacy work is focused on achieving policy change at the local and national level to reverse the racial inequity stacked against the Black community in the UK. We have worked horizontally and vertically with community members, policy makers, local and national authorities, media, faith organisations and other ACH organisations to deliver social change in the Black community.

Support services

As a Black African led organisation, AFRIDAC offers a range of support services to the Africans and Afro-Caribbean community in the UK. With our partnership with The Advocacy Project (TAP), we provide non-statutory and Independent Mental Health Advocacy (IMHA) to the Black community. We provide mental health and wellbeing support for Black men and women through our AMSS and BWSS.
